FlexiJob

An MVP that looked like a funded company.

An early-stage Australian startup needed a two-sided marketplace polished enough to attract seed funding, credible enough to onboard real employers, and functional enough for real workers to find shifts — all in under twelve weeks. Cuebites delivered a full-stack marketplace MVP with web and native mobile, an intelligent matching engine, and trust infrastructure purpose-built for shift and casual work.

FlexiJob came to Cuebites as an early-stage Australian startup with a clear problem in mind and very little built to solve it. The founders had seen first-hand how poorly traditional job boards served shift workers, casual employees, and local employers looking for flexible staff. Seek was overkill and expensive. Indeed was noisy and crowded. Gumtree was unreliable. Facebook Groups were chaotic.

They needed a purpose-built platform that connected job providers directly with job hunters in a way that respected both sides — employers needed quality candidates fast, and workers needed a way to find genuine local opportunities without wading through irrelevant listings or fake postings.

When we began the engagement, FlexiJob had a working paper prototype, a pitch deck, and a tight runway. They needed an MVP that was polished enough to attract seed funding, credible enough to onboard real employers, and functional enough for real workers to actually find and apply for shifts. And they needed it in under twelve weeks.

02 · Solution

A full two-sided marketplace, built in twelve weeks.

Employer and worker apps, a matching engine, verification, payments, and admin tools — scoped tightly enough to ship on time and cleanly enough to scale after funding.

Job provider experience.

tdesign

Employers sign up, verify their business, and post jobs through a streamlined flow that handles everything from one-off shifts through to ongoing casual roles. Posts include pay rate, location, required skills, shift times, and compliance requirements (WWCC, RSA, police check). Employers can review applications, message candidates directly through in-app chat, schedule interviews, and shortlist favourite workers for future postings.

Job hunter experience

carbon

Workers create a profile with their skills, availability, location, certifications, and work history. They browse nearby jobs on a map-based view, filter by shift type and pay, apply with one tap, and manage all their applications and conversations in one place. Push notifications alert them to new matching jobs, application updates, and interview invitations.

Matching engine

boxicons

Under the hood, a matching system surfaces the most relevant jobs for each worker based on location, availability, skills, past applications, and employer preferences. Employers similarly see their top-ranked candidates first, not just the most recent applicants.

Verification and trust

ant-design

ABN verification for employers, ID verification for workers, and a review system on both sides — so the platform gets better at filtering out bad actors over time.

Payments and compliance

material-symbols

Stripe integration for in-platform payments where employers choose to pay through FlexiJob, plus automated record-keeping for tax and award compliance — a significant differentiator from the informal Facebook Group alternative.

Budget tracking

duo-icons

Real-time visibility into every participant's budget utilisation across all support categories, with alerts for approaching limits, overspend, or significant underutilisation. Plan review preparation reports show exactly how funds have been used, backed by service evidence.

Web and mobile

bi

A responsive web application for employers and a React Native mobile app for workers, deployed to both iOS and Android. The web admin gives the FlexiJob team full visibility into platform activity, moderation queues, and growth metrics.

What changed, in numbers.

An MVP that got funded, onboarded enterprise, and compounded growth on both sides of the marketplace in its first ninety days.

What changed after launch — across funding, enterprise adoption, product activation, and marketplace health.

Seed funding secured within eight weeks of MVP launch. An enterprise pilot signed with a national hospitality group that had previously rejected the prototype. User activation rate up 55% after the redesigned onboarding flow went live. Time to first job application under 90 seconds for new workers — a critical marketplace liquidity metric.

Dual-sided growth within the first three months: both employer and worker sign-ups compounding week-over-week. And zero critical bugs in the first 90 days post-launch — a function of disciplined MVP scoping and proper QA.

In their own words.

What the co-founder actually said about building a product that punched above its funding weight.

We showed the platform to three investors in the first month. Two put in money. One of them told us the product looked like it had ten times more funding behind it than we actually had at that point. Cuebites built us something that felt like a real company, not a university project. That framing got us to the next round.
